I had a blast attending RootsTech virtually this year! I even made several short videos (each one is under 1-minute) that I invite you to watch.
If you’ve been attending RootsTech these past few days, you may be as worn out as I am! And it’s been fun, right?
So much fun that you aren’t ready to let it go? Good news – you can keep it going!
Step 1: Choose Connection
The theme of this year’s RootsTech was “Choose Connection.” So, do just that! Connect with family consistently over the next weeks/months. Some ideas:
- Call a cousin, just to say hi! 👋
- Send a family history story to relatives via physical mail (won’t that be a treat!)
- Write a blog/social media post and tag family members so they can add their stories.
Step 2: Revisit Regularly
So.much.content! RootsTech this year had 1,500+ sessions!
There is no way you can get through it all in one weekend.
But, you can go back and revisit sessions as you wish. A tip – do it on a schedule. You can sign up for email updates on the RootsTech page too.
Step 3: Organize Your Learning
Did you take any notes? Did you “like” any Tweets or Instagram posts? If so, spend 30 minutes organizing all of it into a one-pager.
Once you’ve pulled it into a notes file, save it so that you can revisit it or add to it over time (see Step 2). I saved my notes digitally using Notion and set reminders so that it pops up every 4 months.
I am passionate about organizing – whether it is for my family photos & documents in my online family archive (did you know that I have an online club for organizing your digital memories?), or, my day-to-day life. Organizing helps me learn better and it can help you learn better too.
Your Turn…
I am doing all 3 of these steps. What about you?
