Projects

my volunteer projects

I serve others through a myriad of volunteer activities, including participation & leadership roles
in the national USGenWeb Project and the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society

USGenWeb Activities

I am/had been a county coordinator of some USGenWebsites that can assist you in utilizing free genealogy resources. Ever considered donating the items you have that are related to the history and people in a specific geographic region?

Indexing Projects

TNGenWeb Historical News Index – database of abstracts from Tennessee newspapers.

NCGenWeb Yearbook Index – database of (mostly) senior classes found in yearbooks from many NC colleges and universities. More than 38,000 names so far. Created in 2010.

NC Historical News Portal – database of names mentioned in various newspaper articles. Site also includes a few paper-specific indexes.

1940 Census Indexing (TNGenWeb Project) – I led a group of 50 volunteers in indexing 360,000+ names

Black Nashville – blog (now archived) dedicated to the African-American history & genealogy of Nashville, Tennessee.

Who’s Who in Tennessee — I created the portal and currently coordinate transcription efforts for this WordPress-powered site of Tennessee biographical profiles. This project was featured as the cover article for the Summer 2013 issue of FGS Forum.

Index Onslow County Cemetery Transcriptions – typed up more than 6,000 names from 12-volume series. (June 2013)
