Funeral Today For Mrs. Adkins. Services for Mrs. Bernice Adkins, a Fisk University physical education instructor, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church, 319 Eighth Ave., N. The Rev. Kelly Miller Smith, church pastor, will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
MRS. ADKINS, on leave from her Fisk post since 1964, died Wednesday in a two-car accident near Nashville, Ind. She was working on her doctorate degree at Indiana University on "The Negro Female in the Olympics." A native of Washington, D.C., she was the former Miss Bernice Lee.
She was married to Dr. Rutherford H. Adkins, a Fisk University physics professor, in 1946. He survives. Mrs. Adkins was a graduate of Virginia State College, Petersburg, Va., and also attained her master's degree there. Besides her husband, survivors include a daughter, Miss Sheila Adkins; a son, Mark W. Adkins, Nashville; a mother, Mrs. Vivian Bernice Lee, Frederick, Md.; a father, William O. Lee Sr., Washington, D.C.; a sister, Mrs. Gloria Weedow, Frederick, Md.; and two brothers, William O. Lee Jr. and Clifford E. Lee, Frederick. |
