    Text Dr. G.W. Gore Jr., Ex-Fisk President, Rites Tomorrow - Services for Dr. George W. Gore Jr., 81, a distinguished Southern educator and former president of Fisk University, will be at 1pm tomorrow at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

    Dr. Gore, a native of Nashville, died Friday at his residence, 1211 Meharry Blvd. He was married to the former Miss Pearl Winrow who survives. Dr. Gore was a graduate of Pearl High School. He received his undergraduate degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

    His graduate studies carried him to many major campuses, including the University of Chicago, Columbia University and Harvard University where he earned one of his four doctorate degrees.

    His years as an educator spanned four decades. Following a deanship at Tennessee State University, Dr. Gore became president of Florida A&M University in 1950. He held that post until 1968 when he was named president emeritus of the university.

    Dr. Gore was a visiting professor and lecturer at George Peabody College from 1969-1972, and became interim president of Fisk University in 1976. He held that post for a year.

    Dr. Gore was a member of the Southern Regional Educational Board from 1950-1968. He was also a member of the board of directors of Citizens Bank and Trust Company in Nashville.

    Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Pearl Gore Dansby, Nashville, and two grandchildren.
