Text Jodie Lawhorne, of Gardiner, NY, passed away on October 19, 2022 at the age of 55.

Jodie was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on August 12, 1967 to Samuel Lawhorne and the late Carol Ann Johnson. He attended Spackenkill Union Free High School class of 1986. He also attended SUNY Morrisville & SUNY New Paltz.

He loved the community he worked in and lived in. His strong will to help others came from his love of the community and his strong Christian upbringing. By watching his parents help others, Jodie learned and exemplified his commitment to his community. He helped others all throughout his life and when asked why, his response was “It’s the feeling I get inside that makes it all worthwhile”.

Jodie previously worked as an EMT Firefighter for Croft Corners Fire Company and eventually found his niche as a full time Police Dispatcher for the Town of Newburgh Police. He was also involved with the Village of Wappingers Falls Police, Town of New Paltz Police and the Walden Police Department, sometimes working two jobs at times.

Jodie was very involved in the Anime community and was held in high standings at many of the Anime conventions. He was the Head of Public Safety for Anime USA; Director of Public Safety for Katsucon and Otakuthon; worked Registration and outreach for Anime Boston; and was also the Con Chair for Arisia 2023.

He leaves behind his companion Theresa Lagana; his daughter Katie Lagana and Theresa’s daughter Kelsey Solomon; his father Samuel Lawhorne and brother Jasen Lawhorne; his aunts Helen Martin, Deloris Dawson and Marion Lawhorn and great aunt Vivian Kilpatrick.
