Website Makeovers

Do you read my blog posts via email? If so, come check out my website! I’ve updated it!

I have had it on my heart to do an update for a couple of years now but never got around to it – until now. As part of the update, I transitioned to a new domain name, www.taneyakoonce.com – you didn’t see that one coming did you – LOL! I also updated the focus to highlight and showcase my genealogy and memory-keeping activities.

New scheduling features to make it easier to arrange a time to speak with me – whether for genealogy research tips, consultations on how to organize your digital photos/files/media, or learning how to create digital scrapbooks.

I still have some tweaks to make, along with additional pages to add, but I am pleased to have the major portion done. If you are reading this post in your email, you do not have to do anything different to keep receiving my posts – they will all come to you just as they were before. If you are not receiving my posts via email, I’d welcome you to sign up for email delivery.

Updating the look and feel of my main website is not the only change I made for my digital presence. As one of the ways in which I organize and share my genealogy database, I have an installation of the software TNG: The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding, and have been using it for about 15 years now. TNG allows me to present my genealogy database online and is as robust a genealogy software program as desktop applications. Over the years, I fell behind with making needed updates as new versions came out. Being about 4 versions behind, however, I finally updated this week.  But not just update, I installed a completely new version of the database – completely deleting what I had before.  It feels so refreshing! Don’t worry – I have all of my genealogy data still! It’s just the program files and underlying backend database that was updated.

I’ve changed how I use TNG in the past few years, since starting a Genealogy Do-Over back in 2017. I am long overdue for a blog post about how I use it in my current workflow. For now though, let me just share how pleased I am to have the new version up, and with an updated theme!  I use TNG for my surname projects and I find it immensely valuable for navigating through my family tree while offering an access point that is not restricted by a paywall since I have my database hosted on my own personal website.
