This week, I’ve done something I am anxiously excited for. And, I am hoping that I get what I hope I get! Let me tell you more…
I do not have a VCR – probably, a majority of us don’t, right? But, I do have some VHS tapes. And, I have been meaning to get them converted to digital format and I finally initiated the process. Why these videotapes?
- One is my ultrasound from 17 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter. I have a definitive experience around this ultrasound so I’m so glad I will now have it in digital form!
- One video is from when I was in high school in 1992. It is a recording of a program that we had on campus and I plan to share it with my high school library too.
- And, one is a video my father recorded of my college graduation ceremony from 1997. Not only am I looking forward to seeing the video, but, my paternal grandmother, who passed away in 2006, attended my graduation and I am hoping that there is video footage of her too!
I use a company called FOREVER to organize and manage my digital memories, and digitization is one of the services they offer. It will take several weeks for this to process and when done, the video will be automatically added to my permanent digital archive. One of the features that set FOREVER apart from other companies is that they provide permanent storage for digital photos, videos, and files AND they use industry-standard practices in doing so. Using industry-standard practices is important because it helps ensure long-term viability. The link I’ve shared is one you can use to set up a free, introductory account and receive a coupon too – I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have for I highly recommend them!
I am going to be waiting not so patiently for this to be done. I am hoping that I get to hear my sweet grandmother’s voice again. In all cases, my family will be able to enjoy these memories again after so many years!
